Ganeshotsav
गणेशोत्सव
When
- The Kasba mandal describes a 10-day festival. Its Ganeshotsav page starts the welcome on Ganesh Chaturthi. Maharashtra Tourism places Ganesh Chaturthi in the month of Bhadrapada (August–September). Ozar’s trust runs its own kshetra utsav for five days, Bhadrapada Shuddha Pratipada through Panchami, which is not the same length as Kasba’s city festival. - Who first made it a public festival in Pune is disputed. The Kasba mandal says Tilak began it in 1893 at Kesari Wada. The Hindu says Bhau Rangari’s house held the first community celebration in 1892, that Tilak praised the idea in Kesari on 26 September 1893, and that Tilak installed his own Ganpati in 1894. The Indian Express and BBC News Marathi both record a historian’s counter that the public start was 1893. This guide keeps the disagreement.
