Kasba Peth
Shri Kasba Ganpati
श्री कसबा गणपती
The mandal calls Kasba Ganpati the local deity of Pune and the first honoured Ganpati of the immersion procession. The temple is a year-round sanctum; the public festival idol moves to a mandap.

History
- The Kasba mandal says an idol was found near Jijabai Bhosale’s residence after she and Shivaji came to Pune in 1630, and that Shivaji Maharaj and Jijabai installed the temple idol in 1639. Shree Kasba Ganpati Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal
- Hindustan Times reports that Jijabai commissioned the temple after an idol was found, that some people say the idol was worshipped even earlier, and that the temple’s history is about 400 years old. It also reports that the mandal kept the festival inside the temple until 1925 and moved it to an enclosed mandap from 1926. Hindustan Times
- The mandal’s own Ganeshotsav page says the same 1925 / 1926 change: inside the temple until 1925, and in an enclosed mandap since 1926. On Ganesh Chaturthi a new idol is brought in a silver palkhi to the utsav mandap for pranpratishtha. Shree Kasba Ganpati Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal
Why it matters
- The mandal describes Kasba Ganpati as the deity of Pune, one of the ancient temples of Maharashtra, and the first honoured Ganpati, leading the city’s immersion procession. Shree Kasba Ganpati Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal
- Hindustan Times traces the ‘Manache Ganpati’ order to a dispute over who should lead the procession once the number of mandals grew. It says Lokmanya Tilak gave the first place to the city’s presiding deity, Kasba Ganpati, and the second to Tambdi Jogeshwari. The Indian Express lists the five, in order, as Kasba, Tambdi Jogeshwari, Guruji Talim, Tulshibaug, and Kesari Wada. Hindustan Times · The Indian Express
